A new Astro Bot update has been released, bringing brand-new content to the award-winning PlayStation 5 platformer. This includes five new levels that house new bots, much of which are affiliated with some of the most beloved Square Enix games. When Astro Bot was first announced, no one could have anticipated just how big the platformer would be. Even though it was hardly the little robot’s first adventure, it was the first one that was more than a simple tech demo or VR experience. This is a huge win given just last year, it was mentioned how the publisher didn’t want to include FF7 characters in the game as bots even if they are part of PlayStation history. Foamstars has 2 done to death modes yet I can think of a surfboard mode, a foam clean up mode, chemicals to mess with the foam, traps and more. They barely come up with anything that useful to use the foam for. They just don’t have that mindset, too much money focus then to be creative with the worlds/core mechanics.

Preorders for Astro Bot’s physical standard edition are live now, and digital preorders will be available on June 7. The level in question is called Downsize Surprise in Astro Bot and it will give players the ability to shrink upon command or regrow. Getting back to normal size can break certain barriers like cages fellow bots are trapped in. There are two fist-like weapons in the game which occupy an even amount of power. First, there are the Frog Gloves which allow the player to punch forward with both PS5 triggers on the controller. Players can also use both gloves to pull on enemies to unmask them, whip them around, or even grapple onto certain surfaces marked by red. The Monkey cannot punch forward with as much force but it can still slap.

There are even whole extra levels to find within levels, with warp points hidden like buried treasure that jet you off to new locations in the “Lost Galaxy”. I’m a big fan of this Russian doll structure and the way it introduces new lands. It ensures a constant supply of surprises throughout Astro Bot’s roughly nine-hour duration.
